Above is an image of the Appalachian mixed mesophytic forests map:
Appalachia is home to some 20,000 different species of mushrooms, with only roughly 2,500 being identified and documented. That means there are endless possibilities when it comes to studying fungi in this area, and you never know if you may even stumble on an unidentified species that may be of significant importance. However, what we do know about mushrooms in Appalachia, is that there are plenty of prized edible fungi that can be sold for a lot of money. In this book, I will highlight many of these prized edible mushrooms, such as; Chicken-of-the-woods, Hen-of-the-woods, Shrimp-of-the-woods, Old-Man-of-the-woods, Oysters, Honey mushrooms, Morels, Amanita muscaria and many more…
While understanding the different types of mushrooms that grow in Appalachia is incredibly important, it is equally important to understand their habitat and where exactly you should be looking to find them. There are many tips and techniques being used by professional hunters that help them simplify their search. So in this book, I find it important to cover some of these topics— with my primary focus being on specific plants, trees, and elevation levels. I cover dozens of different species of fungi, including both; edible and poisonous, which also includes plenty of incredibly colorful, exotic-looking mushrooms. I also cover several different types of plants and trees that every hunter should know about. Clear images are used every step of the way!
This is likely my final book for a while on mushrooms, so I truly wanted to deliver something memorable— which I feel like I accomplished in many ways. This area is so rich with fungi, and I think there are less than a dozen published books that focus on this specific region. So I am truly excited about this one. I've spent several hundred hours deep in the Appalachian hills and mountains of the tri-state area [OH-WV-PA] to cover the wild mushrooms that grow there accurately. On top of that, several hundred more hours of research was conducted in order to describe everything with complete accuracy. I've spent the better part of 2022 preparing for this book specifically, and I'm extremely excited to announce that it is now available on Amazon and Google Books.
